I Bid Thee Farewell (For Now)

September 21, 2006

As some of you may have noticed, my blogs have been a little sporadic over the past few months and for the next two weeks they are going to cease completely.  In two days time I will be a married man!  To those that prescribe to the belief that I’m ‘getting more time than one does for murder’ or that I’ll have a ball and chain attached I laugh in your general direction.  I shall return from my honeymoon with more game design ideas, more blogging ideas and a general enthusiasm like you’ve never seen before.  Until then, I hope that you are all well, that your game playing and developing goes smoothly and that you all prepare for exciting things to come from the new and improved Doolwind.

In case anyone is worried, I have brought my ‘holiday game design book’ (a new note book I buy for each holiday to note every new game design idea I have while relaxing away from a computer) and a copy of ‘The Mythical Man-Month’ by Brooks.  So I’m sure I’ll have some insightful (or rant-like) comments to make on the book and will share any amazing game ideas I come up with.  Good night and God bless.

  1. Congrats! Have a nice honeymoon there… and a nice marriage thereafter, of course. ;)

As for notebooks, don’t you have that problem that any slice of paper that’s around eventually gets filled with some notes? I’ve got this all the time, even though I’ve bought specific notebooks – there’s always some sketches in my job book, and some job diagrams in my personal scripts… I’ve started using a personal wiki to keep track of idea’s, but the sketches are still a problem. Oh well. :)

  2. I find that very same problem! All over my desk there are notes with diagrams of missile paths, code snippits etc. I like the idea of a personal wiki however it would be good to have something that could be used away from a computer. Perhaps a tablet PC with a wiki on it is the perfect solution :) . It would also allow adding sketches/diagrams.

    Thanks for the well wishes.

  3. Congrats! Marriage is awesome. Enjoy your honeymoon ;)

  4. Hi guys,

Following along on your note taking addiction, I’ve found using a tablet and Microsoft one note helpful, except that my tablet is a big huge (14″) and I still prefer a notebook.

I’d recommend a very small tablet.

I haven’t found a better software for rough sketching and notebook like note taking than one note, though I don’t like it for sketching that much… ( you only have pens! )

  5. I like your idea Suraj. If I were less poor a tablet would be the perfect option. I really like the idea of keeping my notes digitally. I usually end up writing them all on paper then copying them all into electronic form when I get back to my computer, quite annoying.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve noticed tablet PC’s coming down in price so hopefully soon they’ll be in my own price range :) .
