Sofie-

Apologies if it seems I have made assumptions where I shouldn't. I completely agree that different roles can be shared by different people and I don't mean to pigeonhole anyone. The main point I am making is that there are particular areas of development that need to be completed and by calling them out you can make sure someone is assigned to each area.

Our current team consists of 3 people. One person is handling programming, project management and business (and sharing a bit in design). Another is handling design while the 3rd person handles art. QA is shared by all 3 and sound is being outsourced.

Rather than having a defined "role" we each take the load of the particular area of development.

You make a hefty number of assumptions about how the tasks are divvied up for a shoe-string company. Website development, for example, could easily fall to the artist, the business or project manager. Story and level design aren't mentioned at all, but again, might fall under anyone's domain. The 'Designer' might be the programmer, artist, project manager, etc.

It might have been more useful to consider the skillsets that the team as a whole needs to ensure they have, rather than focussing on individual job descriptions. People looking to start their own companies are usually skilled in more than one field.
